Today I took a solo field trip to check out some of my new city's attractions: botanical gardens. When I looked up 'botanical gardens' in the area, I had no idea how many there were! I chose two I hadn't visited yet, packed up my camera and took off. I spent the day wandering over lush trails past blooming rhododendrons, trees as high as skyscapers, religious statues, candles and even a little cottage in the woods, fit for a gnome. Here are some of my shots.
First stop: Leach Botanical Garden, Portland, Oregon. A small wedding was setting up!

Stumbled upon a fairytale-esque cottage in the woods. Looked around for seven dwarves but alas ....
Couldn't you just move right in?!?
it's a long way up if you're a bird!

Was crossing the bridge to leave and saw this mallard hanging out in the middle of the river. Fishing or napping?!
Second stop: The Grotto, a religious sanctuary for peace, prayer and reflection. And some beautiful scenery.

I've been here a year and am still so surprised at how many green spaces there are within the Portland city limits. More to come! -Laura
